The Collect for Advent 2
Almighty God,
purify our hearts and minds,
that when your Son Jesus Christ comes again as
judge and saviour
we may be ready to receive him,
who is our Lord and our God. Amen.

Philippians 1v3-11 and Luke 3v1-6

We’re delighted you’ve come. You’re very welcome here and we hope that you will simply join in as you feel comfortable. Sitting & listening, standing and singing – just as you wish. You should have been greeted with a Pew Sheet and any books needed for the service. Please ask the stewards if you need help and do take a ‘WELCOME’ booklet and a complimentary copy of our ‘Parish News’ away with you. Join us for refreshments.

Christmas Tree Sale
On Monday morning 14th December about 20 good trees are usually left over trees and are available for a donation at the Parish Centre, or thereafter by arrangement with the office.

Please pray for the candidates and all those involved in interviews on 8th-9th December at Bishopsgrove. The candidates will ‘view’ the parish on Tuesday and be interviewed on Wednesday. Pray too for St.Faith’s at the hub of this exciting new ministry and for the Leesland school and community where the new minister will focus their new work.

Our Christmas greetings leaflets are bundled according to streets at the back of our churches today ready for delivery to the homes of the parish this week. Please take one or more streets and enjoy a walk to deliver our Christmas cards as we extend our greetings and invitation to all in the parish – thank you. Why not pray for God’s blessing on the streets as you walk them too?
Spare cards are available for friends and neighbours.

Churches Together for Gosport invite us to sing Carols for one hour at the Town Hall from 11.00am on 12th December. Come and sing for the Christmas shoppers! Andy has been invited to speak for 5 minutes!

A busy day of celebration yesterday with special thanks to the choir headed by Sylvia & Bill for hosting the fabulous Christmas Supper plus, at St.Faith’s, to all with Noelle & Ron who ran the Christmas Fayre.
New to ALVERSTOKE – you need the ALPHABET!
St.Mary’s has published a wonderful coffee table book called THE ALVERSTOKE ALPHABET.
It makes a great gift for Christmas. A display copy can be seen at the back of St.Mary’s alongside wrapped copies. You are welcome to take one (or more!) on trust and then pay £15 per copy to the Parish Office. Simply sign one out on the list.

Are you among the 600 households who take the monthly parish magazine? It’s a good way to keep in touch and read about other community groups and events as well as the church. Take a copy today from the back of church – call the Parish Office and order a copy monthly, it is great value and can even be delivered to you. Let’s boost the numbers up from 600!

Today we welcome our new 8 person worship band to lead us at Church Alive on 1st, 3rd and 5th Sundays of each month, plus occasional iNViTe services.

At 9.15 Morning Prayer today and on 10th Jan we shall be singing well known Advent and New Year hymns respectively instead of the Venite and Jubilate canticles. The choir will lead the singing of the Psalm to a familiar chant formerly used at Matins. Paul Pilott

DID YOU KNOW? 12,750 Lights!
On average there will be 150 lights on each Christmas Tree next weekend – that makes a total of 12750 lights! It takes a dedicated committee chaired by Rob Hamilton (who makes all the tree bases, sign posts, table tops etc), with Peter Camp overseeing electrical safety for the lights, Angie Jones coordinating 900 performers, Carol Workman and team in the café, Tim Finch and the stewards, and so many more with publicity, setting up, ordering trees, etc. A massive task and huge thank you to Rob and all this amazing team and all who help.
