The Alverstoke Michaelmas Fayre : 24th September 2022

On 25th September the 2021 Michaelmas Fayre beat expectations.  The crowds returned to enjoy a record number of stalls plus all the entertainment, music and refreshments.  The closure of Green Road added much to the ambience, safety and enjoyment of the Fayre.  A wonderful community celebration from which again £20,000 has been raised by local causes and charities.  Even in the churchyard over 1300 traditional fete games were played and enjoyed!

Join us in 2022 on Saturday 24th September 2022

between 11.00am to 4.00pm throughout Alverstoke Village.

Enjoy a traffic free Alverstoke village for an afternoon packed with marching bands, 100 plus local organisations with stalls, plenty of food and drink, the village shops at the heart of Alverstoke, music in the church, and so much more.  A fabulous community atmosphere makes for a memorable event.  The day ends with a packed Community Concert drawing on a whole range of musicians in St.Mary’s Church from 7.00-9.00pm concluding with the wholehearted singing of ‘Not the Last Night of the Proms’.

Find the Kid’s Messy 10 Penny Fun Fete in the churchyard through the afternoon, along with music performed in St.Mary’s.

St.Mary’s Church is pleased to be a partner with Gosport Rotary Club in hosting the Fair.  Some £20,000 or more is estimated to be made by the many community groups and charities which are represented allowing them to invest in their work, volunteering and activities around Gosport. Please come along and offer all the support you can give on such a worthwhile occasion when a community comes together.

For the Fayre Brochure 2021 the Festival Chairman has written:

“Well, here we are back again after last year’s cancellation due to the galloping Covid.  Let’s hope that the weather will do us a favour this year and you will be reading this in the sunshine!

The last event in 2019 saw the Fayre enable local Charities and Community Groups to raise approximately £25,000 for their organisations and, in addition, the Organising Committee made a £1,100 donation to the Mayor of Gosport’s Charity Appeal enhanced by a donation from the Big Noise Samba Band.

This year will see all our favourites back, entertainment from The Big Noise Samba Band, The HMS Sultan Volunteer Band, The New Thorngate Singers and the Harry Strutters Jazz Quartet as well as the Walls’ Funfair and the Kiddies 10p Messy Fete. There will be around 150 Stalls with some interesting new faces.

Once again the organisational challenge in running an event such as this is undertaken by a committee drawn from the Gosport Rotary Club and St Mary’s PCC; on the day of the event the Stewards are found from the Rotary Club and the Friends of Rotary and the members of the PCC.  Our thanks go to all of those and also the youngsters from ‘Loud and Proud’ and the GVA Voluntheroes.  To everybody involved we say thank you especially to our Secretary Penny, Mike Wheeler who organises the Grand Draw (don’t forget to buy your tickets), Simon Mason and The Rev. Andy Norris.

This being my last year as Chairman of the Committee I wish my successor good luck and good weather for next year.”
