Easter season ‘iNViTe’ 22nd April
Next Sunday 22nd April at 6.30pm in St.Mary’s. Contemporary praise and prayer with a resurrection theme.

We are swapping the locations of the children & youth at Church Alive.  The Primary aged Children will be going through to the vestry.  This means we need to recruit a willing band of DBS cleared adults to help assist, might that be you?
Your job would be to go through and offer support to the leader of the group. We will help you to know more so please ask if you would be willing to help on an occasional basis!
Also, as they arrive the children are being handed a sheet by the welcomers. This has colouring one side and activities relevant for the Sunday on the other.  There is also a family time section so do look at that to help you engage with the topic at home too.
Hopefully that will be a start to spark conversations in the week…
Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to teaching, fellowship…
prayer…and ate together with glad and sincere hearts’

On Weds, Thurs or Fridays – five different small groups meet regularly in different homes or the Parish Centre. You’re invited to join a group that suites you for friendship and fellowship, Bible study and discussion, prayer and reflection. Details on the website including:

The fortnightly Thursday Bible Study reconvenes for the summer term on 19th April, 10.15 to 11.45 in the Parish Centre lounge.  We are studying Acts and it’s interesting to find how the problems faced by the early church are so similar to those of today.  All are welcome.  Diana Dow (02392 528122)

You’re invited on 12th May for the relaxed and friendly coffee morning to enjoy coffee, cakes, company and stalls in support of St.Francis’ church: 9.45am-11.30am.

Acts 4v32: ‘they did not claim their possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had… in God’s grace’

We’re delighted that Kay Lancaster has been honoured by the Bishop with the St Thomas’ Award for her services to the church and community. Bishop Christopher visited Kay on Easter morning in The Rowans Hospice and gave her the medal. Please pray for Kay in the hope that she may be strong enough to attend the official service in the Cathedral during Evensong on 29 April at 6pm.

TRAIDCRAFT STALL this Sunday morning in St.Mary’s

The official AGM of the parish is to be held this Tuesday 17th April at 7.00pm in St.Mary’s Church. Elections for Churchwardens, four members of the Parochial Church Council and, this year, one member to Deanery Synod will be held in the context of reports, accounts and reflection from 2017. Nomination forms for these rolls can be found at the back of St.Mary’s. Optional ‘Compline’ prayers will follow after the end of the APCM in the Chapel.

Our formal annual report is called a SOFA (Statement of Financial Activities). It describes the activities of the ‘charity’ through 2017 and presents the accounts. Copies are available. We’re grateful to have again been blessed with a surplus and thank all who give to the church. Gift Offerings we’re reduced in 2017 but were offset by cost savings. But the trend suggests we will need to reflect on Stewardship this year if we are to balance the books again in 2018.

We’re grateful to those who’ve prepared written reports about the activities and ministries of the parish through 2017. The reports are available in a small booklet at the back of church and allow us to celebrate the whole life of the parish.

Wednesday 25th May at 7.30pm in the Parish Centre. Report and result of election from user groups to the PCMC – Parish Centre Management Committee. We’re very grateful to those who look after the centre for us – its hospitality, maintenance and finances.
Girlguiding Alverstoke and Forton District are holding their annual MAY FAIR on Saturday 12th May 2018. Starting with the popular Parade through the Village at 1.50 pm by the May Queen, the fair opens at 2.00pm at the Parish Centre with lots of stalls run by the girls and their leaders including cakes, books, games, tombola, raffle, gifts and refreshments too. We hope to see you there!

Please pray for Richard Kirkby and his and Jackie’s family as we host her funeral on Weds 25th April at 11.00am in St.Mary’s.

The PCC are landlords of the Gosport Disctrict Scout HQ on the Brodrick Hall site. This is just to say that the 25 year lease ran out this last week but a new three year licence has been granted by the PCC allowing the HQ to continue with ‘business as usual’ to give confidence for the Scouts and any users who hire the Scout Hall.

We keep in touch every Friday through our very secure weekly emailing – a photo and introduction to the weekend with the pew sheet and any orders of service attached. It is very helpful – used by some 160 folks – and keeps you in touch whether or not you can get to worship. We use Mailchimp to keep you secure and anonymous and you can unsubscribe at any time at the touch of a button! SIGN UP BY THE WEBSITE or request by emailing the Rector.
