EASTER SUNDAY at 10.00am  (no 9.15 or 10.45!)

We are celebrating Easter by uniting our 9.15am and 10.45am     services at St.Mary’s – worshipping together at 10.00am.  We hope you’ll come and join in with this opportunity for most of the church to gather as one in proclaiming Jesus’ resurrection.  Easter Egg Hunt at the end over coffee!

‘Easter Readings & Hymns of Praise’ Tonight

Tonight at 6.30pm in St.Mary’s for a special service of easter hymns reflecting upon our resurrection hope.

A notice to say we will have badged photographers at 10.00am on Easter Sunday.  We will have consent forms to sign for those who’ve not completed one.  Be assured that you will not be in a picture if you do not give consent.  We hope to take photos   reflecting the range of worship – traditional with the choir, robed clergy etc along with ones showing the music group, activity, refreshments, and congregational worship.  This is because we need new photos to build our brand new website to launch next term and our social media.  No individual will be identified in any photograph. We hope this is ok with the congregation – thank you.

We’re so grateful to members of the St.Mary’s Flower Guild for  generously decorating the church for Easter – thank you.  If any folk would like to contribute towards the cost of all the traditional lilies etc, then any donations in the glass bowl at the back would be very gratefully received; thank you.

PARISH COUNTRY WALK  Saturday 27th April

Map, details and sign-up list at the back of St.Mary’s on Sundays.

A good crowd are signing up so why not join the friendship and lunch!  Walk led by Jane and Huw Jones.

Current course members please note our Alpha course will  enjoy an extension and continue for the first four Thursdays of May from 2nd – 23rd May.  On 2nd May will be an Easter meal.

A new Summer Alpha Course will run on Wednesday evenings starting on 29th May to 17th July.  If you’ve missed the Spring Alpha or would value attending this excellent course then please save the Wednesdays through June and July and join us.  Whyn not invite and bring a friend – they do like invitations!

Our new Coffee and Activities morning for Seniors starts on Tues 2nd May, 10-11.30 am in the Scout Hut, Clayhall Road. (More details in the parish mag). Would you be able to help with serving coffee or washing up? We would also be very grateful for small cakes/tray bakes. Please see Hazel O’Sullivan if you can help.

MICHAELMAS FAYRE   28th September

Can you help us?

The parish shares with Gosport Rotarians in organising the Michaelmas Fayre for our community.  With 5000 visitors and charitable fundraising approaching £20,000 it is a significant event.  The committee have asked the church to provide two people to be:

The Brochure Editor

The Official Draw Co-ordinator

These roles can be supported by Sue in the office.  Urgently by end April Andy would be very pleased to hear from anyone, pair or team of folk who would be willing to undertake these roles. You’re help would be very much appreciated and is so important in our community relations for the future of the fayre.  Thanks so much.

12th to 18th May – Can you help us deliver Christian Aid Week

envelopes to every home in the parish?  There is no longer any knocking on doors to collect donations, simply popping envelopes through the door.  This worked well last year and so we’d love to reach even more homes!

If you’d be able to deliver a few envelopes then please contact our Christian Aid Co-ordinators – Philippa Harrap or Peter Ford; thank you.

There will be a work party at St Mark’s on Saturday 27 April from 2 to 4 p.m.  We need strong adults to restore a heavy monument and any others and children to do general maintenance.  Refreshments nearby after the work.  Our historic St.Mark’s Churchyard in on St.Mark’s Road (near the Anglesey Arms Hotel!).

Working Towards a New Parish Centre…

Coffee, Cake & Co.   Tues 23rd April

We’d value your company every 4th Tuesday of the month from 10.30am-noon in the Parish Centre.  £2.50 for coffee and cake.  Cakes & books for sale.  A great buzz and meeting place.

BARN DANCE  11th May   Get your tickets!

Join us for our traditional Barn Dance in the main hall of Bay House School.  No experience needed as we have an expert caller.  Tickets from the Parish Centre, £12.50 to include supper and dancing but not drinks!  A great night out – so just bring lots of energy and have fun!

hosted for us by Stokes Bay WI on Tuesday 30th April.  The Hunt sheets can be collected from Parish Centre at 11.00am and followed by lunch at 12.30pm.  Cost for both £8.00.  Tickets available from Parish Centre or Stokes Bay WI. The Hunt itself is a process of observation around the village centre (small area) and no prior knowledge is required!

We have 15 gardens open this year. The tickets will be £5 per adult (children <15 free) and will allow entry for both days. On the day, the Parish Centre will be open for tickets, tea and cake. To make this event a resounding success we will need good weather and a lot of help on both days. Many thanks to all of you who have volunteered time and cake – all offers of help are still very welcome.

We held our parish AGM last Tuesday.  It was reported that 2018 saw our general income/expenditure in balance by £6724 and that the new Electoral Roll is 286 members.  Very many people have faithfully served over the past year – and to each one of them we, as a community, are so very grateful.  Kathryn Clarke and Kay Howard were re-appointed to be our Churchwardens, whilst Peter Fieldsend and Libby Norris were elected to serve on the Parochial Church Council.   Two PCC vacancies remain which the PCC could fill by co-option – please contact Michael Thomas, PCC Secretary.

WE’RE VERY SAD… but full of Easter hope.

A Service of Thanksgiving for Joy Skinner will be held in St.Mary’s on Thursday 25th April at 3.00pm in St.Mary’s followed by a Cream Tea in the Parish Centre.  Please continue to hold Eric with Deb & Stephen in your prayers.

Also, a Celebration of Life for Maria Mills will be on 23rd April at 11.15am in Portchester Crematorium; after at Anglesey Arms.  Maria was married to Christopher Mills RN.  We pray for her daughter Rebecca Hutchinson and son Christopher Mills and their family
