Teams wanted for our quiz and curry night in support of a charity which complements our Ethiopia partnership through its work in N.Kenya. On 21st May and 18th June we are going to try new Community Evensong services whereby members of the congregation who are also members of community groups within the parish (hobbies, interests, charities – mindful that their values would need to be in keeping with St.Mary’s) are encouraged to invite your group to have a special service of thanksgiving/celebration at Evensong. Members of the group could read the lessons, select the hymns, offer a welcome, share a few words of encouragement about the group, and – if familiar with praying – could even offer the prayers. If you have a group you’d like to approach then please email Andy asap and we’ll get the ball rolling! Also, if you’re part of a group which might prefer a more contemporary style of worship then please also get in touch to see if a time can be found in the future.
If successful we may repeat Community Evensong in the Autumn.

We’re passionate about nurturing and releasing the gifts God has shared among the congregation. If you’d be interested in helping the minister host a Church Alive service as part of a team on any of the following Sundays: 14th May, 18th or 25th June, 2nd July then please email Andy with the date you can help. We have also subscribed to the comprehensive resource called ROOTS with lots of worship and learning ideas themed for adults and children every Sunday. ROOTS will help the teams hosting a service to prepare the act of worship.

Emma, daughter of Nigel (choir) and Karen (Messy Church), who grew up through St.Mary’s and the choir until she left for college, is volunteering in Laos this summer. She goes with VESA – Volunteer Eco Student Abroad – to work in school teaching English and sanitation, renovating and building – and to work with Elephants and their ecosystem (plus some sight seeing!). With us for Easter, Emma would be very grateful of sponsorship to enable her to travel from any who’d be able to support her in this; thank you so much.

Reports to take away are avaialbe at the back of St.Mary’s Church. We’re truly blessed that the parish accounts showed a surplus for 2016 – thank you all for your generous and faithful giving. 80 members joined in our annual meeting last Tuesday at which Kay Howard was appointed to serve alongside Kathryn Clarke as our Churchwardens. Newly appointed to the Parochial Church Council and/or Deanery Synod were also Graham Collins, Peter Ford, Derek Thompson, Margaret Poole, Michael Lane, Vicki Metcalf, Susan Smith, Graham Hewitt. The new PCC will also be co-opting Tim Finch (Treasurer) and Bill Lock (Lay Chair).

We have heard that the Faculty has been granted to allow for the pew removal to be made permanent, for the refurbishing of the exposed floors and walls, and for the provision of a stone floor and plinth to enhance the War Memorial; along with permission for the fitted carpets. A long process as the Chancellor considered the proposals and objections but now this Shaping the Future project can continue to completion. The delay has impacted our timeline both in terms of the contractors holding the price and our parish stewardship for 2017 with the need to be able to focus on Parish Centre Regeneration Fundraising and general income too. So, we hope to raise the sums needed to cover this work as soon as possible over this Easter season. We are blessed to be nearly half way towards the cost of this £20,000 project – so thank you for your support so far as we now seek to find the £11,000 balance as through the auction and gifts described below – thank you.

PEW AUCTION 29 pews are available and bids for our fundraising auction are welcomed on the forms in St.Mary’s or in an envelope with your bid and full contact details to be received by 8th May (starting at £100 per pew please).

We’d also be so very grateful to any who are happy and able
to sponsor the works with a
DIRECT GIFT to ‘Shaping The Future’ either in the offertory in an envelope you mark ‘Shaping the Future’ (cheques to ‘St.Mary’s Alverstoke PCC’ – using yellow envelopes if to be gift aided) or, we’d encourage the completing of the Pledge Form at the back of church (Gift Aid permission) and your making a Bank Transfer using these bank details to our Shaping the Future account called: St.Mary’s Alverstoke PCC Acc: 02242708 Code: 30-93-56

Thank you very much indeed for all your support and understanding for the urgency of this appeal. We look forward to enjoying a tidy and spacious church to serve us in moving forward as a community in Christ.
