CANDLEMAS 2nd Feb. Did you know…
At Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ birth as God with us, God incarnate. At Candlemas we follow Jesus being presented to God in the Temple at the age of 40 days – his naming and dedication – where we celebrate Jesus as the Light of God’s salvation for all peoples and nations; the one who, in turn, will present us to God our Father. Celebrating Jesus as the Light of the World therefore continues when we gather for the following:

St.Francis’ Christingle 12th January at 11.15am
St.Mary’s Christingle 2nd February at 10.45am

For Candlemas at 6.30pm in St.Mary’s on 2nd February for a
beautiful choral celebration of Jesus ‘The Light of the World’.

St.Mary’s will be ablaze with candles on 2nd Feb. If you would like to sponsor a Candlemas candle in memory of a loved one whose name will then be entered by calligraphy in the Candlemas Memorial Book, please complete the form at the back of St.Mary’s and return it to the Parish Office by 27th Jan with your £3 per name.

Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to teaching, fellowship…
prayer…and ate together with glad and sincere hearts’

Fish n’ Chips at ALPHA
Thurs 6th February
If you’ve not experienced the new Alpha film series yet then you’re in for a treat. Why not come along to the first ‘taster’ session – and even better – enjoy complimentary ‘fish n’ chips’ (or other alternative from the chippy) to start off our new course.
The films are both challenging and inspiring – they help us address questions of life and of faith – and help renew our Christian life.
Our Spring Alpha starts on Thurs 6th February at 7.15pm in The Parish Centre. For catering purposes please sign up for the first evening by contacting Andy Norris at Why not invite and bring a friend? They do like an invitation!

Come and enjoy a cuppa, chat and opportunity to play traditional
table top games at our monthly drop-in from 2.00pm-4.00pm on
Thursday 9th January in St.Francis’ Church. All warmly welcome.

Coffee and activities morning for Seniors from 10.00am -11.30am in
the Scout Hut, Clayhall Road. Every 1st/3rd Thurs.

You’re of course welcome to join the fellowship and make friends even if you don’t wish to join in the ‘paid up’ craft activity. Please contact Emma Anderton for more info and to book your Dot!

A legal agreement is being prepared which, upon completion, should allow for confirmation of planning consent for the new Parish Centre. Planning Meeting Today at 4.00pm in the Chapel, with tea & cake!
Since the CofE signed the Armed Forces Covenant we have hoped to host a monthly activity for Forces personnel and their families. We want to serve those in the forces through those who are retired from the services or any others willing to help in ‘hosting’ teas,
fellowship and activity under the guiding hand of Revd Jon and Carole Backhouse (Collingwood Chaplain). Our vision is to connect with military personnel and families – seeing them supported, encouraged and growing in faith. Any who share this vision for a 4th Sunday are invited to a meeting to start planning on Sun 5th January at 4.00pm in The Chapel. Retired services folk, those serving today or any who’d like to support them are welcome in anticipation of hosting a first tea on 26th Jan!

We’re sad to announce that both Dr Jo Luffingham (St.Mary’s) and
Eric Martin (St.Francis’) passed away during the new year.
Please pray for their families and for Eric’s wife Joyce at this time.
