We are delighted to be appointing Jo Northey to the role of Families Minister for the parish. Jo will be a key member of our Church Staff team by being responsible for:
Leading and growing our Children’s, Youth and Families Ministry (CYFM)
Coordinating and supporting volunteers in this ministry
Seeking new opportunities to reach out to the community.

Jo brings extensive experience and the staff are humbled to be able to share ministry with her. Please hold Jo and her family in your prayers as she takes up this role – and continue to pray for those who already work so hard as volunteers in serving children, Youth & Families, thank you.
Please note that Jo is also an ordained minister, but that any wider ministry as a ‘priest’ will be in a voluntary capacity. Our Families Minister is a lay role and, like our Licensed Ministers (Readers), being called a Minister is not to be confused with ordination. This is the principle of the Church of England through the policy called: Setting God’s People Free encouraging lay Ministers to be released in ministry on the basis of our baptism. Perhaps that’s true for us all!
Acts 2v47:praising God and enjoying the favour of people.

‘Into the Wilderness’ @ iNViTe
This evening in St.Mary’s at 6.30pm – contemporary worship reflecting on faith’s journey in Lent through: the Beauty of the Wilderness ✢ Lost in the Wilderness ✢ Searching in the Wilderness ✢ Path through the Wilderness ✢ Going Home!

LNC starts today arising out of our pioneering ministry. Please pray for Revd Tim & Clare Watson and those who’ll gather to start the new church in St.Faith’s. Blue cards at the back describe the vision of a new faith community for the Leesland area. Please use the blue cards to inform your prayers and as an invitation for those you know, especially those who don’t belong to another church, for whom this could become their faith community. Contact Tim Watson.
Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to teaching, fellowship…
prayer…and ate together with glad and sincere hearts’

HOSPITALITY WEEK – from 5th March
Our pastoral visiting teams are encouraging us all to invite someone in the congregations and wider church community (perhaps those who can’t get along any more!) for a cuppa or a supper – out and about or at home – during the week starting 5th March or thereafter! A very simple but significant idea to express our love and care for one another – it would be such a great encouragement to so many. Please take the ‘invitation’ leaflet and get together with that extra someone/people expressing the Lord’s care for one another.

ALPHA – why did Jesus die?
There were 30 considering ‘who is Jesus?’ this week, next Thursday we’re asking ‘Why Did Jesus Die?’. If you’d like to think about this then you’re very welcome to join us at Alpha on Thursday evening, arriving from 7.15pm in the Parish Centre. Leave room for Deserts/Puddings at the interval!

Andy Norris will be leaving the Lifeboat Station heading west at 1.30pm on Wednesday to ‘beat the bounds’ of the parish as a ‘praying as we walk along’ walk! Any who can walk and pray at 3mph are welcome to join him for the 6 miles to be back about 4.00pm (15 minute cafe break!).

CUPPA & COMPANY 27th February
Our parish bereavement team host a very warm and friendly afternoon with tea & home made cake of the fourth Tuesday of each month at 2.00pm in the Parish Centre.
Any journeying through grief would be warmly welcomed. August 2018
Like to join us camping at New Wine together this year for Week 2: 5th-11th August? If you’ve never been before then come and ask what it’s all about – contact Jo Northey at Camping fun, worship, a chance to grow friendships, deepen faith and great for kids.

Working Towards a New Parish Centre
COFFEE, CAKE & Co. This Tuesday 27th
We’d value your company a week on Tuesday. Every 4th Tuesday of the month from 10.30am-noon in the Parish Centre. £2.50 for coffee and cake. Cakes & books for sale. Bring friends and spread the word…
Last year the coffee mornings alone raised over £3000 towards the Parish Centre Regeneration Fund – thank you to all concerned.
Acts 4v32: ‘they did not claim their possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had… in God’s grace’

ST.FRANCIS’ SPRING CLEAN Next Saturday morning.

We’re creating small bags for children to collect and use in the pews during worship. We have the ‘home made’ bags (thank you Julie Fieldsend) and are seeking donations to fill them with quiet items like: soft toys, books and bible stories, puzzles etc for both under 5’s and for primary aged children. New/good quality used, small, safe and clean items please. Please leave in the box in the back of St.Mary’s, thank you.

The gift envelopes in support of the Bishop’s Lent appeal are commended to you on behalf of refugees overseas displaced by conflict, and of refugees in Portsmouth diocese.

NEXT SUNDAY we’ll be introducing our new Africa Partnerships on Sunday 4th March. Two charities this time!
We’re very sorry to announce the sad news that Lesley died on Thursday. Lesley and her family are so much a part of the congregation and our love and prayers are with William and their children Daniel, Katie, Genevieve and Rory.
Funeral arrangements are not yet made.

Do you fancy cycling 50km around London’s famous landmarks at night to raise funds for our church’s Africa Partnership? Then join Libby Norris who is planning to do the Nightrider Challenge on 9th-10th June. Details at and contact Libby if interested at

We keep in touch every Friday through our very secure weekly emailing – a photo and introduction to the weekend with the pew sheet and any orders of service attached. It is very helpful – used by some 160 folks – and keeps you in touch whether or not you can get to worship. We use Mailchimp to keep you secure and anonymous and you can unsubscribe at any time at the touch of a button! SIGN UP BY THE WEBSITE or request by emailing the Rector.
