Alverstoke Garden Walkabout

15 private gardens (some new) open on 2 and 3 July 2022

The new Mayor will be opening this year’s popular Alverstoke Garden Walkabout, in Gosport, Hampshire on Saturday 2 July.  The gardens, which include some of the finest in Alverstoke, will raise funds for the Alverstoke Parish Centre Regeneration Project will be open 1-5pm on Saturday 2 and Sunday 3 July.  Five private gardens will offer teas, home-made cakes and scones and for the first time there will be a Pimms tent at the Parish Centre.

Some gardens back onto a tidal creek, some overlook the sea and most are wheelchair accessible. Alverstoke’s seaside microclimate allows palms and exotic plants to thrive, while wildlife ponds, model railways, aviaries, greenhouses and garden art compete with brick built vegetable beds, plant walls, ferneries and rockeries to make the Walkabout an unmissable event.

Last year over 500 people visited the Alverstoke Garden Walkabout, bought plants and cuttings and enjoyed teas, raising over £6000. This year with fewer Covid restrictions the organisers hope for more visitors and more sales.

Visitors will need to bring cash to buy cuttings and plants and pay for refreshments (except at the Parish Centre which has a card facility for tickets only). Gardens will be open on either Saturday 2 July from 1-5 or Sunday 3 July, or on both days, while the Parish Centre will be open for toilets and refreshments and will host plans for the proposed new Parish Centre  with new, energy efficient space for clubs, groups, residents and organisations to meet, socialise, exercise and learn.

Tickets will be on sale from 1 June 2022 online
