CANDLEMAS 2nd Feb. Did you know…
At Christmas we celebrate Jesus’ birth as God with us, God incarnate. At Candlemas we follow Jesus being presented to God in the Temple at the age of 40 days – his naming and dedication – where we celebrate Jesus as the Light of God’s salvation for all peoples and nations; the one who, in turn, will present us to God our Father. Celebrating Jesus as the Light of the World therefore continues when we gather for the following:

Candlelight CHORAL EVENSONG

beautiful choral celebration of Jesus ‘The Light of the World’.

MEMORIAL CANDLES for Candlemas
St.Mary’s will be ablaze with candles on 2nd Feb. If you would like to sponsor a Candlemas candle in memory of a loved one whose name will then be entered by calligraphy in the Candlemas Memorial Book, please complete the form at the back of St.Mary’s and return it to the Parish Office by 27th Jan with your £3 per name.

FISH N CHIPS at ALPHA Thursday 6th February. If you’ve not experienced the new Alpha film series then yet then you’re in for a treat. Why not come along to the first ‘taster’ session – and even better – enjoy complimentary ‘fish n’ chips’ (or other alternative from the chippy) to start off our new course.
The films are both challenging and inspiring – they help us address questions of life and of faith – and help renew our Christian life.
Our Spring Alpha starts on Thurs 6th February at 7.15pm in The Parish Centre. For catering purposes please sign up for the first evening by contacting Andy Norris at rector@alverstoke.church. Why not invite and bring a friend? They do like an invitation!

LENT COURSE ‘On The Third Day’
Why not join us for this year’s Lent Course, ‘On The Third Day’? Starting on Weds 11th March, it comprises of five sessions exploring the relevance of the resurrection for today. We will be running two groups in the comfortable St.Francis’ Church in Clayhall Road; one at 10.30am to noon, the other from 7.30pm to 9.00pm. All are welcome, with tea and coffee to start. New: FORCES FAMILY TEA Sun 26th Jan
Those serving in the armed forces and service families are invited to our first tea from 4.15pm on Sunday 26th January in the Parish Centre. Whether single or with a family – all who are serving would be very welcome. The tea is for spouses and children too – especially important when someone is away from home. iNViTe Bring & Share TEA 29th Jan
We’ll start our iNViTe teas again ahead of iNViTe services on 4th Sunday of each month. A very informal finger buffet tea (scones/cakes/savouries) from 5.40pm in St.Mary’s Church, leading up to our 6.30pm service. All Welcome – even if you just want to join us for tea each month! Who knows – we might even enjoy a few left over goodies and see some folk from the earlier Forces Tea too!

SMILE goes Dotty! 31st Jan
St.Mary’s Informal Ladies Evening gathers for another creative evening of ‘Dotty Art’ on Friday 31st Jan at 7.00pm in the Parish Centre. All women welcome to get together with others to relax, feel good and have fun. You’ll be using simple dotting techniques to create beautiful wooden hanging hearts, cards and decorated envelopes. Choice of paint effects, colours, designs and stamped sentiments. Price is £7.50 to include all materials and tuition.
You’re of course welcome to join the fellowship and make friends even if you don’t wish to join in the ‘paid up’ craft activity. Please contact Emma Anderton for more info and to book your Dot!


PARISH CENTRE REGENERATION 2020
A legal agreement is being prepared which, upon completion, should allow for confirmation of planning consent for the new Parish Centre.
