CHURCH SUMMER PICNIC

Next Sunday: WELCOME to Rev STEVE DENT

We look forward to welcoming Steve to the team next Sunday – he’ll preach at 9.15am & Church Alive.  Please then bring your picnic to Stokes Bay, meet Steve & Jayne – enjoy food & fun: 12.30pm to 2.00pm (grass or beach near GAFIRS car park – Rectory if wet!).

GWMH Parish Volunteer’s supper with STEVE

As well as Associate Minister in the parish Revd Steve Dent has been appointed by the hospital trust chaplaincy to join the team of local volunteers who serve the chaplaincy at the War Memorial Hospital alongside.  Those from the church who serve as volunteers or staff at the hospital are invited to come and informally meet Steve & Jane over supper at The Rectory on Tuesday 16th July at 7.00pm  For catering purposes please sign the list at the back of St.Mary’s or RSVP Parish Office if you’d like to come – thanks.

Revd CHRIS RICHARDSON update

Chris has now been given a date of Thurs 5th September for his evening ‘induction’ as Vicar of St.Martin’s, Camberley.

COACH…

It would be great to get along and support Chris and so we’re thinking about hiring a coach (tickets).  To see if that is viable please sign the list at the back of St.Mary’s if you’d like to travel by coach for a great evening out together!  Then we’ll confirm details.

FAREWELL SUNDAY…  Chris’s last Sunday with us will be 11th August.  We’re thinking about a united morning service at St.Mary’s at 10.00am (combining Morning Prayer and Church Alive Communion – tbc) to have a big send off for the family.  This will be followed by coffee and then a ‘Bring & Share’ Lunch in the Parish Centre.

GIFT…If you’d like to contribute towards a leaving gift from us to the family to present on 11th Aug in thanksgiving for all that we’ve shared with Chris during his curacy then gifts in envelopes marked ‘Chris Richardson’ – or to the Office – would be very kind, thank you.

SERVING & GIVING

ST.MARY’S GLAZING  – drop-ins this Tue/Wed

Glazing of the Chapel and also of the Tower arch has long been part of the ‘Shaping the Future’ vision for St.Mary’s.  With thanks to all who’ve steadily given to the fund we’re now in a position for the ‘Shaping the Future’ account to allow the glazing to go ahead.  Please see the display in St.Mary’s for plans and detail.  As we apply for a Faculty for these works so we will hold two open drop-in consultations for any who are interested on Tues 9th July at 2.00pm and Weds 10th at 6.00pm. If a Faculty is approved then we hope that glazing work will be complete before winter sets in!

MICHAELMAS FAYRE 28th September

St.Mary’s needs you!   Please save the date.

Because we share with the Rotarians in the overall hosting of the fayre we do need to offer more people to help run the event. It is great that many of us participate through other charities and groups – but it does traditionally leave us falling short in offering helpers.  So even if you participate with another group could you still offer just an hour to the main church fayre team please? – that would be invaluable.  We need to provide different roles – like stewards, roads, tickets, moving tables/chairs, brochure, 10p Family Fun Fete (hosting family games and activities), refreshments etc.  In advance those preparing the brochure (Mike Critchley) and main draw (Michael Wheeler) may also value some extra help.  We’ll put a list out in July for signing up to roles and times.  Thank you.
