SERVING & GIVING

May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father… encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word.   (2 Thess 2v16)

Deadline Day!

NEW MEMBERS WELCOME

Join our CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL in 2019

plus data and photo consent forms.  Forms which explain more are available at the back of church.  By tomorrow at the latest!

AFRICA PARTNERSHIPS    visit on 7th April Thank you so much to all who’ve raised money and given to our Africa Partnerships.  You’re ongoing support for Christian Aid in Ghana and of CHASE Africa in Kenya is wonderful.   We’ve now raised the balance of £2500 for Christian Aid (total £5000) and so we look forward to welcoming Christian Aid’s Stephen Dominy to St.Mary’s on 7th April to tell us about the Ghana project and receive a cheque.  Our partnerships continue until the end of 2019 – when  the final balance of our fundraising will be given to CHASE Africa.

CHRISTIAN AID WEEK

12th to 18th May

Can you help us deliver Christian Aid Week envelopes to every home in the parish?  There is no longer any knocking on doors to collect donations, simply popping envelopes through the door.  This worked well last year and so we’d love to reach even more homes!

If you’d be able to deliver a few envelopes then please contact our Christian Aid Co-ordinators – Philippa Harrap or Peter Ford; thank you.

SAFEGUARDING TRAINING : PARISH CENTRE

Not yet fully booked – so get in quickly!

Those who volunteer and work with children or adults where a DBS certificate is required need to undertake the diocesan C1 training module every three years.  This is for 2 hours – either online – or face to to face.  We are actually hosting a ‘face to face’ diocesan C1 training course in the Parish Centre on Sat 13th July run by the diocesan safeguarding team.  This is an excellent opportunity for those who need initial training or renewal to obtain their:

C1 Children:  09:30-11:30

C1 Adults: 12:30-14:30

Some may wish to attend both sessions.  Each session needs to be booked online on the Safeguarding pages at www.portsmouth.anglican.org/safeguarding/training.  Scrolling down to 13th July sessions.  This course is open to all across the diocese – so it is first come first served for up to 30 places on each.  If there are any queries or difficulties, or to check if you require renewal, please contact our Safeguarding Lead Recruiter: Jan Windsor.  Thanks.

JAM JARS FOR GOOD FRIDAY!

Messy Church are collecting Jam Jars with their Lids to be ready for Good Friday Messy Church.  Jars to Parish Centre or back of church (Sundays only) please – thank you.

ANNUAL PAROCHIAL CHURCH MEETING

What a year we’ve had!  Join in at 7.00pm on Tuesday 16th April in St.Mary’s Church for information, thanksgiving, electing, vision.

Elections for Churchwardens, four members of the Parochial Church Council and, this year, two members to Deanery Synod will be held in the context of reports, accounts and reflection from 2017.

PCC, SYNOD & CHURCHWARDENS

Our thanks to those who are at the end of their term and have

served us on PCC and Synod in the past three years: Vicki Metcalf George Payne, Kim Beazley, Liz Husain and Derek Thompson. Also to Kathryn Clarke who has served us for five years as Churchwarden – we thank her for all her commitment and work.

Could you serve on the PCC or Deanery Synod?    We need to appoint 4 new members to PCC for 3 years, 2 members to Deanery Synod which includes PCC for 2 years.  Nomination forms for these rolls can be found at the back of St.Mary’s.  The PCC meets on 2nd Tuesdays, bi-monthly from January.   In addition we shall be appointing two churchwardens.  Kay is willing to stand and we seek a successor to be nominated for Kathryn.  Please commit all of these appointments to the Lord in prayer – thank you.

CAN YOU WRITE AN INFORMAL REPORT?

Did you lead or share in a church group/ministry during 2018?

Then informal reports up to 350 words of church life are welcome by email to parishoffice@alverstoke.church by next Sunday.

MICHAELMAS FAYRE   28th September

Can you help us?

The parish share with Gosport Rotarians in organising the Michaelmas Fayre for our community.  With 5000 visitors and charitable fundraising approaching £20,000 it is a significant event.  The committee have asked the church to provide two people to be:

The Brochure Editor

The Official Draw Co-ordinator

These roles can be supported by Sue in the office.  By Easter Andy would be very pleased to hear from anyone, pair or team of folk who would be willing to undertake these roles.  We also seek any who’d be willing to be traffic stewards on the day.  Thanks so much.

TONY COMPTON’s Service of Thanksgiving

We are sad to announce that Tony died last week. A special Service of Thanksgiving for Tony will be held in St. Mary’s at 2.30pm this

Thursday 4th April followed by light refreshments afterwards in the

parish centre.  Please pray for Jean, David & Helen at this time.
