Join a wholly NEW ELECTORAL ROLL in 2019
ADVANCED NOTICE! NEW FORMS AVAILABLE IN 2 WEEKS!
Belonging to the Church of England is a strange thing – in fact it is a very open sense of belonging; first to God, then to a church denomination, and then to a local congregation for worship and in mission.
We belong to Christ through faith by our Baptism, it’s also our mark of belonging to the whole worldwide church, which is then expressed locally. The Church of England extends this sense of belonging through the Confirmation ceremony, although that is technically about the prayer confirming God’s Spirit and love in our lives; confirming our baptism. So how do we belong? Well, in the CofE we belong by participation through our meeting, praying and being God’s people together: gathered as a faith community at whatever level we like.
Now, for those who would like to formally sign-up the closest each parish of the CofE has is the ‘Church Electoral Roll’. It has a real sense of belonging, and roll members are those who see themselves as sharing in the life, mission, care and responsibilities of the church through our prayer, serving, giving and fellowship. This has to be updated annually before an annual meeting so you can vote for the Parochial Church Council.
But… every 6 years the Roll is deleted and starts from scratch; when everyone whether new or previously on the roll must sign up!
This is an advance notice to say that 2019 is such a year. So, in the next few weeks when the forms become available please take one to be returned by Sunday 31st March.
If you have any queries then please don’t hesitate to have a word with Revd Andy Norris, or contact our Electoral Roll Officer, Sue Simpson in the office; thank you.
