ST.FRANCIS’ CHAIRS IN MEMORY

We’re delighted that the 40 Chairs purchased in memory of Kay Lancaster have arrived in time for St.Francis’ Christmas Communion today – including 10 arm chairs!

FOR SALE: It means that 40 antique wooden chairs are now available – they’d make lovely seats or dining chairs in your home – or to Shabby Chic or as a gift!  They have a cross motif and a bible/book shelf.  St.Francis’ seek £50 per chair or will consider a reduction for multiple numbers.  They’re typically about £75 online. The contact number to buy is 02392 588520 – Joy or Eric Skinner.

ST.FRANCIS’ CHRISTINGLE SERVICE 13th Jan

All are welcome to join in St.Francis’ Christingle celebration at 11.15am on Sunday 13th January.

MOTHERS’ UNION

Due to unforeseen circumstances the MU have had to change their New Year ‘Thank You’ Tea Party date. Their lovely tea to which they invite parish volunteers will now be hosting it in July.

Instead, their meeting in January will be an ordinary meeting, when our speaker will be Robin Clark, his subject ‘Pantomime’. You are most welcome to join us at 2 p.m.on Tues 15th Jan, Parish Centre.

FROM GOSPORT TO GALILEE

A good group from Gosport churches are off to Israel for a Holy Land tour in April 2019. Just one room remains available if you would like to join the group. The holiday is organised by ‘Oakhall’ the well known Christian Travel company. Ring  Mike Critchley on 07977 534949 if interested in joining the group and tour.

ALPHA COURSE 2019 – advance notice

Please note for your diary that our next Alpha Course will start with a ‘Fish n Chip’ supper on Thurs 28th February through to Easter.

ST.MARY’S NEW COMMUNION SETTING

The 9.15am congregation are in for a treat as the choir have been preparing for a new communion setting for our worship in the New Year.  The Thorne Setting will be introduced on Sunday 6th January at our 9.15am service.  Many will be familiar with the setting and it was appreciated for many years as the setting used at St.Faith’s.

Working Towards a New Parish Centre…

SEA SHANTIES with FISH n’ CHIPS

Join us on Saturday 9th February at 7pm in the Parish Centre.

This will be a great evening led by Mark Tovey – just the thing to cheer up a old, dark evening in February!  Early bird tickets on sale now in the Parish Centre £10 per person.   Fish & Chips & Pudding!

2019 – Save the dates:

CURRY & QUIZ NIGHT, 2nd March and BARN DANCE, 11th May

GARDEN WALKABOUT 2019  – in your garden?

Back by popular demand, next year’s Alverstoke Garden

Walkabout will be on the weekend of 6th and 7th July – and we need more gardens!  If would like to share your garden with the local community on either or both of those afternoons, please drop your details into the Parish Office who will pass them onto the Walkabout team.  Last year’s ‘openers’ enjoyed it so much that they want to do it again, I do hope we can add you to our list, too!

SERVING & GIVING

Acts 4v32:  ‘they did not claim their possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had… in God’s grace’

CHILDREN’S CLOTHING SWAP

A new drop in children’s clothing swap will start in the new year at St.Faith’s, Tribe Road, as part of Tim Watson’s pioneering ministry.  To help with the ‘start up’ should you have any good quality used children’s clothing of all types – clothes that children have grown out of from babies & toddlers to primary aged – then you’re invited to leave them in bags at the back of St.Mary’s behind the ‘ARC Food Basket’ – thank you so much.  Including school uniforms!  Thanks.

CHURCH ALIVE TIMINGS

A polite notice to ask those who attend Church Alive to regard our little mantra (as on the website) of ‘Ten Twenty-five for Church

Alive’ to guide your arrival time.  Ideally please don’t arrive before 10.25am for coffee etc unless you have a duty in serving the coffee.

It’s because of the limitations of the building and our tight entrances – whilst the weather pours in through the main doors when we use them!  Hence we are aware that space is congested at the exit at 10.20am for those departing and so for ‘arrivers’ to come after the initial rush would be helpful!  The welcome teams would be pleased to greet you from 10.25am which also allows time for the 9.15am sidesmen to clear up.  The ministers at 9.15am endeavour to end the service at 10.15am but whilst we have tried exiting by the main doors etc it seems that congestion and disturbance remains.  Your help in this would therefore be much appreciated so as not to

unduly disturb the end of the 9.15am worship – thank you all.

FROM KATE, FAMILIES MINISTER…

Please note no formal children’s groups on 30th December.

Safeguarding DBS

If you are involved with children/families vulnerable adults and need a DBS certificate please meet Jan Windsor to complete your form. 7pm-8pm Jan 9th Parish Centre. Please bring driving licence, passport, national insurance number and proof of address with you. RSVP to Kate Smyth, thanks.

Sunday morning groups team:

Any one already involved or who would be interested to serve our Sunday children’s and young people’s groups (both at 9.15am and at Church Alive)  please join me, Kate,  on Wednesday 9th Jan 7pm in The Parish Centre to plan for Jan-April. Please RSVP if you can/can’t make it to kate.smyth@alverstoke.church   Thank you.
