100 Years – hand crafted poppies and Tommys

An unbelievable 36,230 people viewed the photos on our Facebook page last week! What a tribute for which we’re very grateful to Gosport Men’s Shed for making the silhouetted soldiers for us by which to mark the centenary of the armistice.  Also to the Scrap Happy and the Alverstoke Quilters and WI sewing groups for the hand made poppies on the Lych Gate, Parish Centre and in the village.  The Men’s Shed have also decorated the Anglesey Rd/Clayhall Rd phone box with a Tommy and poppies – do visit!

100 YEARS’ PEAL OF BELLS

Having sombrely rang three times during the war to inform the parish of one more fatality, and then ringing out the armistice – our bells will once again ring today in commemoration.  In the Tower are two Bells placed in memory of those who died in WWI. We’re grateful to the ringers of our Tower who will ring an hour’s Quarter Peal followed by other rings in concert with our neighbouring parish of the Cathedral and parish churches throughout the country at 11.30am today.  Prior to 10.30am the bells will be muffled and pealed as a tribute to those who died.
