A LETTER FROM THE RECTOR

Please be sure to take a copy of Andy’s letter for the autumn for all worshippers across the parish today.

PLEASE WEAR A NAME BADGE TODAY!

With a theme ‘You know me by name!’ at the start of a new autumn season we’d encourage all at St.Mary’s to wear a name badge for Sept/Oct. You may like to make one at home or, when you arrive, just make one at the table at the back of St.Mary’s – thank you.

WOULD YOU LIKE A PERMANENT BADGE MAKING FOR YOU?

If you fill in the slip and pop it in the small box at the back then Hilary Wilson has kindly offered to make proper badges.    Thank you Hilary.

More details in the letter for all worshippers today.  We’d encourage all to belong to a small group in the church.  We now have 7 groups meeting on Tues, Weds and Thurs – daytime and evening – so there should be one for you!  Plus we want to start a 20’s-30’s Network!

From Jo, our Families Minister…

GODPARENTS SUNDAY  16th September

Can you invite a Godparent our a Godchild to join you next week?

Next Sunday there will be special focus at our 9.15am service whilst Church Alive will be a more invitational Godparent/Godchild service.  Whatever age we are celebrating those who have supported the journey in faith in others.  For some this will be in the specific role of a Godparent or Christian Sponsor whilst for others it will be as friends and family who have prayed over many years.  We have invited those who have been baptised or dedicated/Thanksgiving over the last year to come with their Godparents.  However, this is a great opportunity for us all to invite the people we have journeyed with in faith, as Godparents, Sponsors or in other ways.  We will think about the promises we’ve made, how we are the family of God and how we can be faithful in mentoring a new generation in faith.

10p MESSY FAMILY FUN FETE Michaelmas Volunteers?

Last year our new innovation of the family fun in the church yard was very successful for the community.  But we need many helpers to express God’s welcome through running the dozen fete games.  Can you help us for some of the time between 12-4.00pm on 29th Sept?   If so then I’d love to hear from you or please sign the volunteer list at the back of St.Mary’s so I can be in touch – thanks, Jo.

YOUTH  including new Youth Alpha & Youth Group

Youth is a big focus this term, we are teaming up with St Faith’s Lee-on-Solent to be able to provide a wider range of activities.  Please have a word with me, Jo, about our new Youth Alpha Course starting this September as a weekly group to eat and think about the basics of faith together.  Also our Saturday night Youth Group will increase to twice a month on 2nd and 4th Saturdays starting 22nd September at a new time of 7.00pm – 8.30pm.

PARENTING FOR FAITH COURSE

Our course will resume next Friday morning at 9.30am with 4 more sessions, this week is about encouraging children to hear from God.  Please contact me, Jo, for the venue etc.

Next MESSY CHURCH  27th September
