Tickets for the concert on 5th October are now available from the Parish Centre. Price is £ 7.50. We’ll be in for another treat with the Volunteer Band of HMS Collingwood, The (Portsmouth) Military Wives’ Choir, and Katie Rogers, a marvellous local jazz singer. The theme this year is “Pack up Your Troubles”. Tickets will sell fast, so go along and make sure you buy yours soon.
Fund Update: Through all the hard work and generosity of giving over the past couple of years the fund now has a current balance of £35,503. This is a remarkable effort and we are so very grateful to the Regeneration Fundraising Team chaired by Ann Smith and all the supporters who’ve made this possible. Thank you all.
Building Update: The regeneration team are working hard with the architect and local authority planners to deliver a new parish centre that will effectively serve the parish long in to the future. It is hoped that we will soon have plans for all to see which we can go on submit for a successful planning permission. Whilst we must raise as much as we can locally the project will be expensive and it will rely upon successful grant applications.
Keep in touch with the project on the church website, and also through the ‘Alverstoke New Parish Centre’ Facebook page.
Memorial Service for Dr.Spink
We’re very sorry to share the news of the death of Dr.Gordon Spink for whom a memorial service will be held in St.Mary’s on Tuesday 24th July at 3.00pm. Please hold Pat and their family in your prayers at this time of loss.
DID YOU KNOW? WEDDINGS
Finding ourselves to be the third most popular wedding parish in the diocese we’re hosting 23 weddings in St.Mary’s this summer. We enjoy the journey to the wedding day with the couples – especially our valuable and moving marriage preparation mornings in February and March. Couples can choose to enjoy the ringing of the bells, flowers by the Flower Guild, and music by the organist and Junior Choir. Peter Camp is our ‘verger’ and oversees the registers and administrative arrangements. Couples book weddings at our Wednesday ‘Vestry Hour’ from 7.00pm in the Parish Centre. We read couples’ Banns of Marriage for three consecutive Sundays in the month prior to their being married. Banns are read a fourth time in the marriage service.
Please pray for the couples to be married this summer – both in their preparations and upon the day that they may know the grace of the Holy Spirit undergirding their marriage and growing their
relationships for the future. Thank you.
We also value the celebrations of marriage which some folk are having at special Wedding Anniversaries – a renewal of vows and of commitment after years of marriage.
