NEW AFRICA PARTNERSHIPS 2018-2019

Today we’re pleased to be launching our new partnerships to take us through to December 2019. There will be a presentation at each service and please take an information pack.
This time we are sponsoring two projects:
One with Christian Aid in Ghana for the wellbeing of young and vulnerable adults where our £5,000 will again become £20,000 from the EU.
The second where all the monies we raise over £5,000 will go to CHASE Africa in Kenya who continue the amazing work in community health & the environment and in favour of women’s well-being that our previous partnerships were promoting in Ethiopia and earlier in Kenya. We’re invited to continue those sponsored and fund raising activities which have been so successful for our partnerships. Thank you for all you’ve shared in our previous
partnerships and the money generously raised. We do have a
dedicated bank account should you like to give regularly for Africa over the next 20 months – details on our website: Africa.

FAMILIES MINISTER

We are delighted that Jo Northey started in her new role for the parish on 1st March. Jo will meet the congregations at 9.15am and 11.15am today. As a key member of our Church Staff team Jo will be responsible for:
Leading and growing our Children’s, Youth and Families Ministry (CYFM)
• Coordinating and supporting volunteers in this ministry
Seeking new opportunities to reach out to the community.
Jo is delighted to be our new families minister and says,
“My passion in serving God is to see HIS people (the church) finding ways to actively engage with families.  To bring them into the wider community that we can offer and, within that, to find and come to love the God that we live for! If you  would like to know more, please come and chat to me, my phone number is 07807188912 and e-mail is jo.northey@alverstoke.church.”

WORSHIPPING
Acts 2v47:praising God and enjoying the favour of people.

LEESLAND NEIGHBOURHOOD CHURCH
With 23 folk LNC enjoyed an encouraging start last Sunday welcoming those who share the vision for a new serving faith community in the heart of Leesland. Please use the blue cards to inform your prayers and as an invitation for those you know who don’t worship at another church for whom this could become their faith community. Contact Tim Watson.

EASTER SUNDAY Please note that St.Mary’s 9.15am and 10.45am services will join together at 10.00am for Easter.

GROWING, FELLOWSHIP & EATING
Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to teaching, fellowship…
prayer…and ate together with glad and sincere hearts’

ALPHA – Why did Jesus die?
You’re very welcome to join us at Alpha on Thursday evening to explore the cross, from 7.15pm in the Parish Centre. Leave room for Deserts/Puddings at the interval!

HOSPITALITY WEEK – from 5th March
Our pastoral visiting teams are encouraging us all to invite someone in the congregations and wider church community (perhaps those who can’t get along any more!) for a cuppa or a supper – out and about or at home – during the week starting today, 5th March. A very simple but significant idea to express our love and care for one another – it would be such a great encouragement to so many. Please take the ‘invitation’ leaflet and get together with that extra someone/people expressing the Lord’s care for one another.

PARISH LUNCH Tues 13th March
You’re invited to the next lunch at 12.30pm in the Parish Centre on 13th March. In being so popular it is essential to book in advance with Sue in the Parish Office to reserve your place or table. The price is £7 on the day.

LENT PARISH BOUNDARY PRAYER WALKS
Andy Norris has been misleading the walkers when one with a tracker measured the boundary as 9 miles, not the 6 Andy had advertised! Even so it is a moving both to walk and pray and so Andy will be leaving the Lifeboat Station heading west at 1.30pm on Wednesday to ‘beat the bounds’ of the parish as a ‘praying as we walk along’ walk! Any who can walk and pray at 3mph are welcome to join him for the 9 miles to be back about 4.30pm (15 minute cafe break!).

MOTHERING SUNDAY POSIES – greenery
We would appreciated any spare greenery to hep with the making of the posies for Mothering Sunday. Any greenery to be left at the back of St.Mary’s for Fri 9th March. Thank you.

NEW-WINE.org August 2018
Like to join us camping at New Wine together this year for Week 2: 5th-11th August? If you’ve never been before then come and ask what it’s all about – contact Jo.Northey@alverstoke.church. Camping fun, worship, a chance to grow friendships, deepen faith and great for kids.

SERVING & GIVING
Acts 4v32: ‘they did not claim their possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had… in God’s grace’

PEW ‘HAPPY BAGS’
We’re creating small bags for children to collect and use in the pews during worship. We have the ‘home made’ bags (thank you Julie Fieldsend) and are seeking donations to fill them with quiet items like: soft toys, books and bible stories, puzzles etc for both under 5’s and for primary aged children. New/good quality used, small, safe and clean items please. Please leave in the box in the back of St.Mary’s, thank you.
