SERVING & GIVING
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father… encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. (2 Thess 2v16)

BARRIERS TO BELIEF – this Thurs 23rd
This week we shall explore the question: “Why do people still accept Christianity? Is it just a crutch for weak people?” and the final session on 30th Nov will ask “The church – does the decline of the Christian faith in Western countries signal the end for the church?” Thurs 7.15pm Parish Centre.

FAMILIES MINISTER update
Last Tuesday the Parochial Church Council were truly grateful for the pledged giving, gifts and legacy towards a Famiies Mininister appointment in the Spring – surpassing £20,000 a year. The sums pledged across such a broad range of people is such a cause for thanksgiving. The appointment will go ahead and be advertised in January. Thank you for being so generous and making this very missional post possible.

YOUR CHURCH COLLAGE NEEDS YOU!
We’re creating a Collage of every worshipper by asking you all to bring a passport sized photo of yourself to glue to the canvas in the south aisle in St.Mary’s. With this we hope to make a postcard in thankfulness for every person.

Next New YOUTH GROUP 9th December
Next youth social is Saturday 9th December, meeting at the Parish Centre at 6.30pm -with a Christmas theme!
Parents please register your offspring at their first night – we need new documentation and consents for a new group! For more info contact Jo at: youth@alverstoke.church

CAN WE HELP YOU LEARN TO PLAY THE DRUMS?
For 2018 we seek to grow the worship music group provision in St.Mary’s for Church Alive and monthly evening iNViTe. We’d be pleased to hear from those who would value joining in the bands – and from any who’d like to take up percussion!

MUSIC, DRAMA, ART, MOVEMENT, LITURGY
For 2018 we seek to create a second worship band, along with having a drama group, the inspiration of some artists for worship, a dance/movement group, and those who may write prayers/liturgy. We have valued some of these in the past – let’s release such gifts again! The idea is the groups would meet in fellowship and prayer as they prepare – and then share their creativity once a month in worship. Please have a word with the clergy – especially if you can be a champion for one of these ministries.

Can you help? HOSPITALITY & WELCOME
The warmth of hospitality – expresses the Lord’s welcome to us all – is a growing hallmark at St.Mary’s. It relies upon every member looking out for their neighbour at worship. We seek four teams of six people to host morning coffee and be welcomers ahead of Church Alive. The teams are significantly depleted and so is this a ministry you could offer once a month? If so please contact Kathryn Clarke in church or at kathryn.clarke1967@gmail.com

Cathedral ARMED FORCES COVENANT SERVICE
Bishop Christopher invites you to join him for the signing of our diocese’s commitment to the Armed Forces Covenant. In the presence of senior members of the forces, community leaders and others this will take place during Evensong at the Cathedral on Tuesday 28 November at 18:00.
NEW PARISH CENTRE PLANS
Provisional plans are now with GBC seeking pre-planning application guidance and it is expected that amended drawings will be brought to public consultation in the Spring. Last Tues the PCC were pleased with the project’s progress and affirmed with gratitude the hard work of the new centre team.

Christmas is coming continued…

Area CHRISTMAS DAY LUNCH
hosted at St Faith’s, Lee-on-the-Solent
Last Christmas, people from across the churches of Gosport came together to provide and host a Christmas Day Lunch at St Faith’s, for those who would otherwise be on their own.
This year again St Faith’s is willing to host a lunch but seeks volunteers from other churches to do so.
The Lunch itself will be 11.30am-2pm on Christmas Day, and people will be needed to cook, host and serve the lunch on the day.  Drivers will also be needed to collect guests, and take them home again afterwards. If you would like to help with the Christmas Day Lunch, please call Rev Dr Paul Chamberlain, vicar of St Faith’s, on 023 9200 6184, or email him at vicar@stfaithslee.org.uk .
