NEW PARISH CENTRE UPDATE
Over the last 18 months we’ve raised the first £20,625
towards the regeneration of the parish centre.
Thank you so much for all of the hard work and your
generous support which has reached this threshold.
Can we surpass £25,000 by Christmas?
The fundraising committee have been fabulous through their hospitality of the coffee mornings and the monthly events they’ve hosted, plus their hard work behind the scenes
seeking grants etc; thank you to the team.
There is much still to achieve in the time ahead for our project – but the good news is that this sum should now see us through to gaining Planning Permission.  We are pleased to have appointed an architect – Richard Bullen from Plum Architects – who will revise our early draft plans and guide us through the planning process.  So we hope to be able to show you the plans in the near future and to get some further momentum going as we move forward with the vision for a new Parish Centre for 2020 by which we can serve our community.   Please pray for this project, for the teams, and for the resources to see it to completion.  Thank you.

MEMORY WALKING – ALZHEIMER’S RESEARCH Rev Hazel O’Sullivan, Jean Compton, Carol Workman and Jo Hillier are walking in Portsmouth today for Alzheimer’s Society. Can you sponsor them? Sponsorship forms in church or them about online giving – Thank you very much.

MISSION TO INDIA – Prayer & Medical Equipment
Four members of our congregation – Jan & Blair Norman with Sally & Ray Smith will be working at the Harriet Benson Memorial Hospital, Lalitpur Uttar Pradesh in India between 7th-21st October within the ongoing Mission Direct work for that community. The hospital is staffed by Christians and the visiting team will help with building and decoration works along with community palliative care; whilst seeking prayer and support towards medical equipment. Costs are covered, but please have a word with the team if you may be moved to sponsor them towards medical equipment for the Theatre etc – any gifts and prayers very much appreciated.

Getting Muddy for NAOMI HOUSE
Debie Cathcart in the congregation joined others for the very muddy 14K Nuts Challenge. Sponsorship was sought by a team along with other St Mary’s members actively support the work of Naomi House hospice for children and young adults. Please have a word with Debie if you can sponsor her muddy quest or offer time in joining a fundraising event. For more details see: https://www.naomihouse.org.uk

CUPPA & COMPANY for the bereaved

BARRIERS TO BELIEF new course
An opportunity to explore issues that sometimes trouble people about accepting the Christian faith. Over 7 weeks we will be considering topics like “Has science, technology & the modern world shown us that we no longer need a belief in God?”; “The Bible – can we trust it?” and “Are Christians arrogant to say that Jesus is the only way to God?” This seven-week “Barriers to Belief” course will be held in the context of Pilgrims at Parish Centre on Thursday evenings – starting on October 12th – hope to see you there.

ADULT BAPTISM & CONFIRMATION
We look forward to welcoming Bishop Christopher on 26th November for a special combined service at 10.00am.
Confirmation ‘expresses the laying on of hands’ after Baptism for the renewal of the Holy Spirit. Like Pentecost, it’s a wonderful celebration of faith, trust and the abiding life of God within us. Please have a word with the clergy if you’d be interested in getting Confirmed or Baptised.
For adults and teenagers Confirmation and/or Baptism does require preparation, this entails taking the Alpha Course for adults whilst Tim & Clare Watson will host a group for teens.
