CHILDREN & YOUNG PEOPLE IN AUGUST
It is with regret that the groups for children and teenagers will be more limited at St.Mary’s on Sunday mornings during the school holidays. No group at 9.15am and ‘amalgamated’ activity at Church Alive – creche area continues.
TUESDAY TRASH CAFÉ
Please pray for Revd Tim Watson and St.Faith’s in hosting the Real Junk Food Project’s ‘Trash Cafê’ every Tuesday in Leesland. They use quality ‘sell by date’ foods donated by supermarkets to provide nutritious meals and offer groceries in the community. 160 visitors again this week!

CLARE WATSON READER TRAINING
Clare is preaching at St.Mary’s this morning. Our congratulations to Clare whom the diocese have selected for training to be a Reader/preacher. Please pray for Clare as she starts her three year course in September.
PADDY TRASLER LICENSING AS READER
After her three years in training we approach the Licensing of Paddy as our new Reader by the Bishop in the Cathedral on Saturday 23rd September at 11.00am. All welcome.
We look forward to welcoming Paddy to the Reader Team.
ADULT BAPTISM & CONFIRMATION
We look forward to welcoming Bishop Christopher on 26th November for a special combined service at 10.00am.
Confirmation ‘expresses the laying on of hands’ after Baptism for the renewal of the Holy Spirit. Like Pentecost, it’s a wonderful celebration of faith, trust and the abiding life of God within us. Please have a word with the clergy if you’d be interested in getting Confirmed or Baptised.
For adults and teenagers Confirmation and/or Baptism does require preparation, this entails taking the Alpha Course for adults whilst Tim & Clare Watson will host a group for teens.
Mid-Year CHURCH FINANCES update.
Thank you for your giving.
It is a blessing that our church income and expenditure is just balanced after 7 months of the year. From your generous giving, gift aid and investments etc our general income has been £115,700 and our expenditure £115,351 – leaving a balance of £349! Thank you very much indeed for all that you give in support of the ministry and mission of the church.
The rest of the year will present challenges and there will be impact from a reduced income at St.Faith’s (which is actually doing better than projected – thank you St.Faith’s!).
St.Faith’s changes are very missional for the future (an amazing 190 people passed through the doors at Trash Cafe a fortnight ago followed by 160 this week!). So, if there are any folk who would be able to join our Parish Giving Scheme (PGS) or renew their giving in other ways in support of our seeking to grow the church and serve the community then any new gifts would be very much appreciated in the hope that we can avoid a deficit at the year’s end – thank you. Please see the ‘giving’ pages on our website, find a leaflet at the back or ask the clergy team or Treasurer, Tim Finch. Thank you so much for your gifts and for sharing in this expression of our worship to the Lord.
SHAPING THE FUTURE – Pews & War Memorial
With St.Mary’s back radiator now relocated, the works to refurbish the wooden floor, decorate the walls and lay a Purbeck stone floor and plinth to the War Memorial will continue over the next three. All the pews have now been sold, and together with your kind giving to ‘Shaping The Future’ over £16,000 has been raised for this summer’s project. Thank you for your gifts which have made this possible. Along with the carpeted areas in 2016, the space afforded is proving to be so beneficial and we hope that the end result will be very good and enhancing of St.Mary’s as well as
being dignified and moving at the War Memorial.
MICHAELMAS FAYRE ‘10p Messy Fun Fete’
As co-hosts with Gosport Rotary, St.Mary’s will be involved with the Michaelmas Fayre on 30th September. Please join us to help express God’s love through the hospitality offered at St.Mary’s on that day. In addition to the church being open with music & the community concert at night, this year we shall also host a 10p Messy Kids Fun Fete along the church pathway. We’ve a dozen exciting games, crafts and activities all at 10p or free. Being co-ordinated by Kay Howard, Chris Richardson and Libby Norris; please sign up to help at the back of St.Mary’s – thank you.
COMING UP AT PCC (Parochial Church Council)
Please remember the PCC in your prayers as they seek the Lord’s grace to guide their decisions. In September they will be discussing a new role of Families Minister, the Parish Centre Constitution and a Lone Workers Policy!
PRAYER REQUESTS can be written on the tree by the Chapel in St.Mary’s, on the wall Cross in St.Francis’ & the prayer board in St.Faith’s. Please be mindful of confidences in your requests which are offered in prayer for one month.
THE PRAYER CHAIN exists to support those needing prayer through a confidential network of caring parishioners. Please contact Sue Stacey on 023 92 583167.

support of the new parish centre.
