The official AGM of the parish is to be held on Tuesday 11th April at 7.00pm in St.Mary’s Church. Optional ‘Compline’ prayers will follow after the end of the APCM in the Chapel. Elections for Churchwardens, four members of the Parochial Church Council and, this year, six members to Deanery Synod will be held in the context of reports, accounts and reflection from 2016.
CAN YOU WELCOME PEOPLE TO WORSHIP?
We’d like to add new members to the Sidesman and Welcome teams – members need to be adopted at the APCM on Tues. Could you help us be being such a welcomer at the service you attend? Let us know by Tuesday!
PCC, SYNOD & CHURCHWARDENS
Could you serve on the PCC or Deanery Synod? Our thanks to those who are at the end of their term and have served us on PCC and Synod for the past three years: Sue Strong, Tim Finch, Libby Norris, Michael Thomas, Carol Workman, Jean Compton, Sue Smith, Michael Lane and Graham Hewitt; and also to Bill Lock as Churchwarden.

SUNDAY SCRIPT – spread the word.
Here’s a new thing that’s happening in Coffee Number One (Gosport High Street) at 10:30am this Sunday and every other Sunday following that: 23/4, 14/5…
Sunday Script is an opportunity to read the Bible together and to make new friends. This isn’t for folk who attend other Sunday church services. Rather, this is an opportunity for people who are interested in faith, or who currently don’t have a church, to read about Jesus, drink coffee and also chat about Jesus. It’s the beginning of a journey and it may well be the beginning of a brand new church in Gosport – it’s certainly going to be church for me!
Do spread the word. We’ll be meeting for the first time and reading Mark 1 together. Please take a postcard, spread the word and pray for us today! Cheers, Rev Tim Watson.
New COMMUNITY EVENSONG
On 21st May and 18th June we are going to try new Community Evensong services whereby members of the congregation who are also members of community groups within the parish (hobbies, interests, charities – mindful that their values would need to be in keeping with St.Mary’s) are encouraged to invite your group to have a special service of thanksgiving/celebration at Evensong. Members of the group could read the lessons, select the hymns, offer a welcome, share a few words of encouragement about the group, and – if familiar with praying – could even offer the prayers. If you have a group you’d like to approach then please email Andy asap and we’ll get the ball rolling! Also, if you’re part of a group which might prefer a more contemporary style of worship then please also get in touch to see if a time can be found in the future.
If successful we may repeat Community Evensong in the Autumn.
SERVING & GIVING
May our Lord Jesus Christ himself and God our Father… encourage your hearts and strengthen you in every good deed and word. (2 Thess 2v16)
LEADING CHURCH ALIVE & ROOTS
We’re passionate about nurturing and releasing the gifts God has shared among the congregation. If you’d be interested in helping the minister host a Church Alive service as part of a team on any of the following Sundays: 14th May, 18th or 25th June, 2nd July then please email Andy with the date you can help. We have also subscribed to the comprehensive resource called ROOTS with lots of worship and learning ideas themed for adults and children every Sunday. ROOTS will help the teams hosting a service to prepare the act of worship.
MICHAELMAS FAYRE ‘FAMILY FUN FETE’
The fayre is on 30th September this year and we help to host it with Gosport Rotary Club. Rather than the Raffle, this year the congregation are invited to create some Family Fun with our own fun fete in the church grounds. It would be wonderful if we could run a dozen games and activity stalls which are affordable/free for children and their families – injecting some free fun rather than commerce in to the fayre! Any ideas of stalls? We need to be planning now and we’d probably need 30 helpers – so who’s up for this? Please email Andy if you can help – thank you.
EMMA WILLIAMS VOLUNTEERING
Emma, daughter of Nigel (choir) and Karen (Messy Church), who grew up through St.Mary’s and the choir until she left for college, is volunteering in Laos this summer. She goes with VESA – Volunteer Eco Student Abroad – to work in school teaching English and sanitation, renovating and building – and to work with Elephants and their ecosystem (plus some sight seeing!). With us for Easter, Emma would be very grateful of sponsorship to enable her to travel from any who’d be able to support her in this; thank you so much.
EASTER WEEK (after Easter) COMMUNIONS
Please note there is NO WEDNESDAY 7.30am Communion during the week after Easter. But, there is THURSDAY 10.00am Communion at St.Faith’s with Hazel that week; join their fellowship!
