Please note there is a break from our Thursday Pilgrims until a supper on 15th September. In the Autumn our Pilgrims nights will enjoy three learning options running in parallel of studies in John, deeper studies and a Christianity Explored course.
The second new weekly Trash Cafe grew this week to demonstrate the benefit to the community and power of ‘word and mouth’ – please pray for this pioneering partnership with Tim and the Trash Cafe team (Real Junk Food Project) whose provisions are supermarket ‘sell by’.
Thank you to everyone who raised £162 at the cream tea towards the fencing. St.Francis’ welcomes Revd Colin Chambers next Sunday for their gift day in support in support of St George’s Foundation (caring for street children in Sierra Leone).
SERVING & GIVING
Acts 4v32: ‘they did not claim their possessions as their own, but they shared everything they had… in God’s grace’
ETHIOPIA PARTNERSHIP LAUNCH DAY
‘Healthier Futures for Women & Girls’
With Christian Aid and their partners on the ground we are supporting women and families in Ethiopia overcome the challenges they face from poverty which fuels selling girls to marriage as children followed by high maternal and child mortality. A situation of suffering, of dangerous abortion, of harmful traditional practices, of gender inequality and lack of access to family planning, health and educational services. Involving work in both churches and in mosques.
With £1000 already in the bank we seek to raise an additional £4000 by October 2017 which will then be multiplied to £30000 by the EU. This will enable our partners to
improve the circumstances and wellbeing of women and girls and release them from the dangers they face.
Can you organise a fundraising event for this? In 2015 a sponsored run for Kenya raised over £700 – who’s up for that? From selling cakes to quiz nights… Thank you.
If any would be willing to donate regularly by Standing
Order or BACS then please pay to our special account of
St.Mary’s Alverstoke PCC (it’s at Lloyds TSB plc, Gosport)
Account Number: 01077703 Sort Code: 30-93-56
If you can please code your gift as ‘ETHIOPIA’
Have you signed up with us so we can collect any Gift Aid?
Thank you for sharing in this Africa partnership for the poor.
FOOD & TOILETRIES FOR ARC
There is a basket at the back of St.Mary’s which
invites regular donations of imperishable groceries and toiletries which are most valued by Gosport’s
Accommodation Resource Centre. A Christian
charity, ARC supports homeless young people with steps into accommodation from their poverty. Thank you for all that is offered in the basket. Please note that all offerings at Harvest shall be for the BASICS BANK.
NEXT CHRISTIAN BOOKSTALL IN ST.MARY’S
Next Sunday 24th July at coffee time.
SERVING TEENAGERS – 100 each week!
We need more helpers/leaders for our youth ministry on Sunday mornings (immediate) and on Friday nights (September). A few extra folk may allow rotas so we can at least be covered with enough each week. Please have a word with Andy or Chris to find out more and see if it could be you. Thank you.
We are privileged to connect with about 100 young people each week in the summer through the Friday Breakthrough, Sunday groups, Junior Choir and our Junior Sailing Club. Thank you to our amazing teams who serve them.
A BUSY TERM – THANK YOU!
Only this weekend we’ve enjoyed the youth club BBQ & Water Fight at the Rectory and the Fun Day and Traidcraft Coffee Morning – thank you to the folk who organised the events. It has been a busy term with so much that has happened from festivals, street parties, picnics, coffee mornings and teas, concerts and quizzes, lunches and suppers, youth clubs, Messy Church, sailing club, choir events, day trips… Plus our week by week midweek groups, Sunday activities for all ages, nursing homes, school governors and so much more. Put together this is a huge amount of work and offering of service to the Lord – thank you to each and everyone for all you offer. We are an amazing community of God’s people! Enjoy a summer rest!
CAN YOU HELP AT THE MICHAELMAS FAYRE?
As a church we run the two official fayre stalls with information and official fayre raffle, plus we can offer church information and hope to sell tickets for our autumn Barn Dance. Can you offer help to this for part of the afternoon on 24th September?
CHRISTMAS DINNER HELP!
Would you be interested in helping to provide lunch on Christmas Day for those who might otherwise be alone? St.Faith’s Lee on Solent are looking to host one and would value a team to help. firstname.lastname@example.org

Shaping the Future:
SIDE AISLE PEWS & THE WAR MEMORIAL
Following pew consultations in May 2015, new presentations of our plans to make good the side aisles and provide a stone floor to dignify the War Memorial will be made in St.Mary’s. The first is on: Tues 19th July at 7.30pm followed by Thurs 21st July 2pm; Weds 27th July 7.30pm and Weds 3rd August 11am. We hope this may lead to application for a Faculty this autumn for work in Spring 2017.
Many thanks to those who regularly give to our ‘Shaping the Future’ fund which allows us to develop and to grow.
A Grandparents’ Festival is taking place Portsmouth Cathedral (for any older person with any younger person they know well – no need to be related) for fun together across the generations and short seminars. An intergenerational celebration!
