Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship… and to prayer’
40 MILES OF PRAYER!
About 20 miles signed up so far… Inspired by Jesus’ going off for quiet walks to pray, let’s see how many prayer miles we can do? Either…
Sign the list for one day of Lent to commit to Walk a Mile from home praying for God’s loving blessing on the people of your local streets and community; or,
Sign the list to commit to Walk the Stokes Bay ‘Measured Mile’ with Prayer for the church and the parish.
On the lists it doesn’t matter if a number of people pick the same day – it’s the prayer that counts!
LENT WEDNESDAY PRAYER
Different folk each time, but about seven people have been at the gatherings which have been very inspirational in prayer. You’re invited to share in this call to gather and seek God in prayer each Weds in Lent at 2.00pm or 7.30pm in St.Mary’s. Health permitting, some may like to make each Wednesday a day of fasting too!

GIVING SCHEME TAKES OFF!
News from the Treasurer that now over 50 members have switched or started giving by the new Parish Giving Scheme (PGS). This is making a huge difference and, in addition to the gifts, PGS is immediately returning £925 tax to the parish every month which is transforming cash flow. Thank you to those who have taken up giving by PGS since October.
If you have not yet seen or have lost your ‘Giving Pack’, with PGS forms, they are still available at the back – thank you.
Giving a Crèche CARPET
After a long trial, the PCC would love to lay a proper carpet
for the toddlers and parents in front of the Chapel in St.Mary’s.
If there are any who think this is a great idea and would be willing to sponsor a m² or ft² that would be wonderful, thank you. Please put any donations in envelopes marked with ‘Carpet’ – many thanks for this real blessing to families.
Giving by businesses: REMOVING SIDE PEWS
We have 15 month permission to experiment with removing the pews in St.Mary’s which are attached to the north and south walls. There were open consultations and presentations about this last Spring.
We expected to move a few at time but, through the kind
support of ‘Ian Cameron & Sons Builders’ who’ve attended
to the pew joinery this week the pews are now ready to be moved by the generosity of Claire at ‘First Choice Removals’ on 3rd March. Haslar Heritage are kindly allowing the pews to be stored for safe keeping on the hospital site. We are
grateful for all this generous support. The beautiful hassocks will be accommodated within the main pews.
If the space is favourable then works to ‘make good’ the floor and walls will be carried out in 2017 following a faculty. The pews may then be available for purchase to be enjoyed.
Giving GREENERY for Mothering Sunday
We’d be grateful of any greenery suitable for the making of posies if left at the back of St.Mary’s by 26th Feb – thank you.
Giving a WELCOME HAMPER
We’d like to welcome Tim & Clare Watson to their new home with a hearty hamper. If you would like to contribute to this
by popping any grocery or household items in to the Parish Centre by 13th March that would be very kind – thank you.
Ethical shopping – ‘REAL EASTER EGGS’
Order fairtrade eggs by contacting Tessa & David Bloodworth or at the Fairtrade stall over coffee in St.Mary’s this Sunday.
Next CAP MONEY COURSE
We perhaps make the most decisions in life about spending money yet we don’t learn about how to be wise with it. Hosted by Kim Beazely in the congregation, a good group found the January course to be significant in the care of personal finances. A two session course is next to be held on Fridays 11th & 18th March 11.30am-1.30pm at Waterside Community Church, South Street PO12 1ES. Chat to Kim, discover more and book online at capuk.org Leaflets available. Free. All welcome. CAP stands for Christians Against Poverty.
DID YOU KNOW? OUR ANNUAL GENERAL MEETINGS
St.Francis’ congregation hold their AGM after worship next Sunday on 28th February, and
St.Faith’s theirs after worship on 13th March.
Our whole parish Annual Parochial Church Meeting (APCM) is on Tuesday 19th April at 7.00pm in St.Mary’s.
Save the date and come to welcome Tim & Clare Watson over lunch after Tim’s licensing on 17th April, in Leesland School.
LICENSING FOR REVD TIM WATSON
Bishop Christopher will license Tim as our new Pioneer Minister at 11.00am on Sunday 17th April in Leesland.
A very special day in our church story.
Shared with Forton congregation too, Tim’s licensing will
involve gathering at St.Faith’s and a procession to Leesland Junior School Hall for the service followed by lunch.
Some may prefer simply to gather at the school.
The licensing will not include communion and so Hazel will host a single said service at 9.15am in St.Mary’s that day.
SUMMER QUILTING FESTIVAL
Our local Scrap Happy quilters are displaying their beautiful works at the Quilting Festival in St.Mary’s from 3rd – 5th June 2016. Save the date and come to enjoy their wonderful craft.
QUEEN’S 90th BIRTHDAY PICNIC

We’d love you to join!
THE CHURCH ELECTORAL ROLL
By your faith in Jesus you belong to his church – your baptism celebrates that belonging. But you can express ‘belonging’ to a local CofE congregation through our ‘Church Electoral Roll’. It even gives you a vote at the annual meetings – so why not sign up? Application Forms are at the back of church.
