After eating we’ll invite a guest to speak about God. Some may have other normal ‘model’ cars to put on show or none, no worries; just come for car chat – food – God chat, and bring your mates. More details and sign up nearer the time.
WOMEN – continue to watch this space for something chilled for women too…
GROWING & PRAYING
Acts 2v46: ’They devoted themselves… to the apostles’ teaching, to fellowship… and to prayer’
40 MILES OF PRAYER!
Inspired by Jesus’ going off for quiet walks to pray, let’s see how many prayer miles we can cover this Lent?
A few options through our call to prayer, either:
Sign the list for one day of Lent to commit to Walk a Mile from home praying for God’s loving blessing on the people of your local streets and community.
Sign the list for one day of Lent to commit to Walk the Stokes Bay ‘Measured Mile’ on the promenade with Prayer for the church and the parish and all you see!
On the lists it doesn’t matter if a number of people pick the same day – it’s the prayer that counts!
Some may even commit to pray everyday, either for a mile walk or from their home – please let us know if you do!
WEDNESDAY PRAYER DURING LENT
A call to gather and seek God in prayer each Wednesday of Lent from 10th Feb to Holy Week at either 2.00pm or 7.30pm in St.Mary’s (8.00pm on Ash Wednesday). Health permitting, some may like to make each Wednesday a day of fasting too!
The prayer gatherings will not be ‘formed’ acts of worship but rather times to learn to wait on God with others and respond.
THE PRAYERS OF JESUS COURSE
Come along, even for just one or two evenings to our very good ’Prayers of
Jesus’ course each Thursday with
refreshments from 7.15pm in the Parish Centre.
During this fascinating course we will look at:
11th February: Our God Listens:
The Persistent Widow Luke 18v18
18th February: Joining in Jesus’ Prayer:
The Lord’s Prayer Matthew 6v9-13
25th February: Praying to a Good God:
The Friend at Midnight Luke 11v5-13
3rd March: Praying with Purpose:
Jesus’ Final Prayer John 17v20-26
10th March: A Friend in High Places:
Faith, Prayer & Answers John 14v8-17a
These themes will be preached about on each
Sunday following the course session.
Help! I don’t know how to pray!
The CofE has launched a new
website at www.justpray.uk to help you. Pay it a visit whether new to prayer or having prayed for years. You’ll find it full of prayers to offer and information about how to start
renewing prayer as the priority of your lifestyle.
It all starts, continues and ends with prayer. Let’s make it our priority during Lent and create new expectations in prayer to take us beyond Easter. As you join in our special prayer focus let’s not forget to deepen our
regular daily prayers in church, across our services
and in our own personal devotions. Let us pray…
HEALING PRAYER MINISTRY – 27th February
Many value the prayer ministry afforded in some of our services. We’d seek to grow the team who can offer such ministry by sending some on a diocesan training event for parish Prayer Ministry Teams. Please have a word with Andy or Diana Dow if it might be for you? Saturday February 27th at St.Jude’s Southsea from 9.30am-3.30pm. There is a leaflet with booking form.
CANDLEMAS FLOWERS & PHOTOS
All who’ve visited St.Mary’s this week have enjoyed the floral and candle displays – many thanks to the members of St.Mary’s Flower Guild. Several hundreds of folk have viewed the photos from last weekend on our parish Facebook page – visit Facebook Alverstoke Parish Church. Sue will show you in the office if you don’t have access to a computer!
ST.MARY’S ANNUAL SPRING CLEAN
