The decision has been made!
It is with very mixed emotions that I write to let you all know that I plan to retire as of March 16th 2015
This date is the seventh anniversary of my returning to the Diocese and of my licensing at Alverstoke It will also be a few weeks after my 68th birthday.
My last service, as the Associate Priest, is planned for March 1st.
We want to thank you all from the bottoms of our hearts for all the love and support that you have given us during our time here with you. It has been a privilege to serve here.
St Paul wrIting to his friends at Philippi said
I thank my God every time I remember you. In all my prayers for all of you, I always pray with joy because of your partnership in the gospel from the first day until now, being confident of this, that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the day of Christ Jesus.
And this is my prayer: that your love may abound more and more in knowledge and depth of insight, so that you may be able to discern what is best and may be pure and blameless for the day of Christ, filled with the fruit of righteousness that comes through Jesus Christ – to the glory and praise of God. (Philippians 1:3-6, 9-11 NIVUK)
These words sum up much of my feeling at this moment as we look to the time until March and then beyond.
Maggie and I will be retiring to our home near Portchester and, God willing, will continue in retirement to minister In many ways within the area.
